The 2024 NBA Draft: A Recap of the Two-Night Event at Barclays Center

The 2024 NBA Draft took place on June 26 and June 27, 2024, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

For the first time, the draft took place on two consecutive nights. The first round was held on June 26th. The second round was held on June 27th.

The draft lottery to determine the order of selection in the first places was conducted on May 12, 2024. The Atlanta Hawks, who entered the lottery with a 3% chance of winning, were drawn as the franchise with the right to select first. The lottery produced the following order in the second to fourth places: Washington Wizards, Houston Rockets (from the Brooklyn Nets) and San Antonio Spurs.[1]

In the subsequent draft process, the Frenchmen Zaccharie Risacher and Alexandre Sarr were selected at positions one and two.[2] This meant that after Victor Wembanyama last year, a Frenchman was again selected first. The American Reed Sheppard completed the top three. Many experts described the draft as one of the weakest years in years.[3] Two German players, Tristan da Silva and Ariel Hukporti, were selected in this draft.
