The announcement of the official song of La Vuelta 2024 ‘When the summer ends’, performed by Miss Caffeina, pays tribute to cycling fans who “every year enjoy the Spanish grand round on television and on the roads.”
The song will provide the soundtrack to the Spanish race, which will take place from August 17 to September 8. The advertisement was released this Wednesday with the participation of the three performers of the Miss Caffeina group, Alberto Jiménez, Sergio Sastre and Antonio Poza.
Also present were the sports director of RTVE, Rosana Romero, the director of Public Relations and relations with sponsors of La Vuelta, Charles Ojalvo, and the director of Communication and Participation of RTVE, María Eizaguirre.
The latter explained that they have “everything ready for the start of La Vuelta”, and that the corporation will be “pedaling for another year.” For her part, the sports director highlighted the great sports coverage that RTVE is developing this summer. “We hope it will be a wonderful summer for RTVE. The Vuelta reaches every home, it passes through Spain and that also makes us closer,” she said.
Ojalvo remarked that “Miss Caffeina is part of La Vuelta and has been a collaboration that honors this end of summer.” “It’s one of the best music videos we’ve made in recent years,” he said.
“We never thought we were going to have a summer song. We knew what was expected of us, this sound that we are very good at, it is very ours and identifies us,” confessed singer Alberto Jiménez. For his part, Sergio Sastre indicated that “the composition phase, of getting into the skin of the person who has to receive it, has been super nice.” Antonio Poza highlighted that they made “a great team recording the spot.”
The song is based on memories of youth and the summers in which La Vuelta floods the televisions of millions of homes, explains the corporation’s statement, which highlights that in the spot the fans appear reflected while riding a bike, attending the race. or enjoy the beautiful scenery that the peloton offers.
“They all end up grouping together at Miss Caffeina to the sound of their official tune while, in the background, they remember iconic moments of arrivals, hugs and landscapes that have marked the history of La Vuelta.”
The corporation highlights that the song is “a direct and energetic song”, which “transmits through its energy, its guitars and a touch of nostalgia, the spirit” of the Spanish race, which “lives the emotion in every kilometer and combines the richness of its history with innovation in each edition”.
The official tune celebrates 45 years since ‘Singing in the rain’ by the French Sheila and B.Devotion provided the soundtrack to La Vuelta in 1977. Since then, there have been many artists who have provided music for the Spanish test, which this year it will leave Lisbon, in Portugal, and will also pass through the towns of Oieras and Cascais in the Portuguese country.
‘Cuando acabe el verano’ will be broadcast 300 times on RTVE’s various channels over the next three months, starting this Saturday, June 29, with the start of the Tour de France in Florence. It will also accompany the daily broadcast that the corporation will do of the 21 stages of the Spanish round.
