The biggest Czech ace will enter the championship, the relays weakened by health problems

Rome (from our correspondent) – Roman Šebrle’s protégé started his first all-around at the top event in style, improving his personal best in two of the opening three disciplines. But then the height didn’t work for him and after the first day he is tenth. The hurdles, discus and javelin await the all-rounders in the long morning block.

Then it’s time for the relay races, the Czech quartet was nominated in both quarter-distance races and among the men in the 4×100 meters. But each of the teams recorded one weakening during the championship.

The sprinters lost Eduard Kubelík, although he was not a stable member of the quartet. After the successful start of the 200, he had to end his participation in the championship due to a muscle injury. The Czechs will run in the lineup of Zdeněk Stromšík, Jan Veleba, Jan Jirka, Ondřej Macík.

Lada Vondrová, who also withdrew before the semi-finals of the 400 relay due to lingering illness, will be noticeably absent from the women’s quarter-stroke relay team, which longed to fight for the Olympics before the championship.

Tereza Petržilková, Barbora Malíková, Barbora Veselá and Marcela Pírková will probably run for the Czech Republic during the finals of Gloria Lurdes Manuel on the smooth quarter and Nikoleta Jíchová on the hurdles.

Tereza Petržilková and her relay partners face a difficult battle for the final.

Even the men will not be complete if Matěj Krsek will not start due to a cold and a sore throat, which became apparent at the start of Thursday, on the recommendation of doctors. Michal Desenský, Patrik Šorm, Adam Smolka and Philip Krenek will run in the Czech team.

And a trio of spearmen will also be in action. In the first group, Martin Konečný, who pleasantly surprised the previous year in Munich by reaching the final, will start in the second duo of Jan Železný’s wards, Jaroslav Jílek and Jakub Vadlejch.

He has a stable, excellent form this season as well, and overcoming the 82-meter limit should not be a problem for him. However, since the Olympics in Tokyo, he won a medal at all the top events.
