The Case for Bringing Trinchieri Back to FC Bayern Basketball Squad 2024/2025

@Junes said in FC Bayern Basketball Squad 2024/2025:

Why should we bring Trinchieri back?

I’ll try to give a factual answer (also to you, my dear @bemha):
1.
Club and coach must fit together. More precisely: The realistic The expectations of the club on the one hand and the coach on the other should be the same. When you read that Laso wanted to be in the top 4 (he said something similar in an interview before, namely (roughly): “What are the biggest organizations in the world? Besides the NBA, Real Madrid and Bayern”), then I have to shake my head. We are talking about FC Bayern Basketball … Trinchieri is, perhaps this is also a matter of character, still an underdog (which he will probably always remain). And Bayern is certainly not yet a “top dog”.

  • During the EL season I had already asked myself the question: what would other coaches have achieved with the current Bayern squad? And what would Trinchieri have achieved? You can probably imagine how the deliberations turned out…

  • Bayern will have to think carefully about the new coach (hopefully Mr. Hainer will have to stay out of it, even if it’s difficult). With a Laso you might attract a Serge Ibaka, but with a Trinchieri you “only” attract Othello Hunter and James Gist. But the latter could also work, especially since there are so few Ibakas in the European basketball world, so this one-off performance could well be enough.

Bayern will have to continue to take risks with transfers. Wade Baldwin, Cash Winston, Carsen Edwards – the common denominator is the initial frown, and that will also be the case with the next PG / SG.
The coach has to be a good fit for these players. Whether he spent the last few years on the bench at Real Madrid or just at Zalgiris Kaunas is of secondary importance.

  • And the style of play? Of course, an attractive game is a value in itself. But so is successful basketball. There must be reasons why all Bayern coaches have had their team play in a similar way. I can live with that just as well as with the fact that the successors to the 1980s Lakers are not to be found on the Isar, but “only” on the Spree.

  • What might speak against an immediate return of Trinchieri is that it hasn’t been that long since he left. But that requires an assessment of internal information that probably very few of us know (and I am certainly the very last person to know).

To clarify: Nothing, absolutely nothing in my postings should be seen as an argument against Gordie. I have only ever spoken positively about him. Herbert would also be a great choice (because it could be a good fit between him and the many world champions who now play for Bayern and hopefully will continue to play for them in the future).
