Space Jam is probably the most famous basketball film in history, and Muggsy Bogues was lucky enough to be in the cast. The former Hornets player then told a juicy anecdote about a filming scene.
Among the greatest classics of sports cinema, we obviously find Space Jam. The youngest perhaps only know the second part with LeBron James as the star of the film, while the children of the 90s had undoubtedly already seen the first episode with Michael Jordan in the lead. To shoot this famous film, a huge cast was chosen.
Aside from the presence of the Bulls legend to help Buggs Bunny and the Looney Tunes beat the Monstars, those who viewed the film were also able to note the appearance of other former superstars like Larry Bird, Charles Barkley and Muggsy Bogues. Muggsy Bogues’ anecdote on the set of Space Jam
We filmed for 2 and a half weeks. Of course, we were in Hollywood to film this. I remember one morning we were supposed to shoot a scene, and Larry Johnson decided to get a new haircut. On set, a white man had to cut him. He had never taken care of an African American’s hair before. So you can guess how it ended. It was nonsense.

The scene was therefore not filmed that morning. We had to reschedule it for the afternoon because they had to bring in a new hairdresser to fix his head. It was so funny. It’s been a great opportunity to be with all these guys. There were some iconic games because they built a court for Michael Jordan. Unfortunately for me, I couldn’t play because I was injured, but it was really fun.
Like his former Hornets teammate Muggsy Bogues, Larry Johnson was part of the cast of Space Jam. However, while he wanted to dress up with a new look for this occasion, the interior ended up with a cut he didn’t want. Fortunately, the damage was able to be repaired that same day by a much more comfortable specialist.
Ultimately, this story became a memory that the two retirees can return to from time to time to make the gallery laugh. Obviously, a few basketball games were even organized, and there is no doubt about the identity of the winner. But what Johnson will remember is that the millions of viewers of this blockbuster finally saw him with a decent face.
Space Jam was a worldwide success, but it almost cost Larry Johnson a haircut. Because as Muggsy Bogues recounted, the hairdresser of the former Hornets All-Star had not really respected his client’s instructions, even if all this was able to be corrected later.
