The grand finals show, live at Climbing Madrid

Watching professional climbers scale a Difficulty wall is a spectacle in itself: they move vertically like salamanders. But if you add the excitement of the competition, of seeing how they try to outdo each other by doing almost impossible moves, you have the necessary ingredients to make the experience extraordinary. And this is precisely what Climbing Madrid, the great climbing festival, offers today, Saturday 15 June.

The highlight of this day are the finals of the Madrid and Spanish Championships, which both take place on the demanding Wall of Difficulty, a 15-metre-high wall with challenging shapes that seems designed not to be promoted And all categories participate, from the absolute to the youth (Under15, Under16 and Under18), thus adding the bonus of being able to compare the competence of each group.

Juvenile and absolute

The different competitions cover the whole day, although they are interspersed with many other proposals, such as concerts, exhibitions by the GERA (the Special Group for Rescue at Height of the Firefighters) and meetings with stars and legends of climbing. And, in addition, both the bars and the ‘food trucks’ and the VIP area will operate at full capacity throughout the day.

At 9.30 am, the final of the category U14 opens the tournament; at 12.30 hours is the time for the U16 climbers and, at 2 p.m., that of the U18s. The absolute professionals, on the other hand, the total climbers by technique and experience, face each other at 20.30 at the same difficulty wall.

The prize-giving will take place at 10.05 pm on the main stage, and will determine who will be, within each category, the new benchmarks of Difficulty Climbing in both Madrid and Spain.

Musical soundtrack

DJ Abel The Kid, a true reference in the most prestigious electronic sound, will open the musical agenda with a session from 4.30pm to 5.30pm. Abel The Kid is one of the most important DJs and producers of dance music in Spain. He was resident for 8 years at Sala Fabrik in Madrid and also a regular guest at the most important clubs in Ibiza, such as Privilege, Ushuaia, Pacha and Arkadia Miami.

In addition, another great DJ will join the party, Neus González, television presenter and announcer at 40 Urban, who has played in venues such as Apol·lo de Barcelona, at the Camp Nou, and at well-known parties such as ChocoChuros or Maraca . It will be served from 19.15 to 20.15 hours.

And not only that, because it will also open the awards ceremony of the Madrid and Spanish Difficulty Climbing Championship at 10:00 p.m., and close this unforgettable day at Climbing Madrid with another closing session from 10:45 p.m. to 11:45 p.m. hours.

Firefighters, and much more

But until the Arroyomolinos climbing party is over, there’s plenty to see and do. To start, in the morning, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., you can go to the Planeta Dots sewing workshop, which with the motto Repair your clothes, save the planet!, seeks to unite circular economy, recycling, ecology and awareness.

We continue with the exhibition of the GERA, the Special Group for Rescue at Height of the Fire Brigade of the Community of Madrid, which has three parts: at 4.30 pm, they will perform maneuvers on the Wall of Difficulty; at 17.35 we will see how this special group works and, at 18.15, their performance will conclude with a zipline descent.

And, in between, why not stop by the ‘foodtrucks’ area and the bars to have something? Drink, food, a relaxed moment, restorative strength… anything can be. Water, soft drinks, beer; hamburgers, frankfurters, waffles. We suggest you hydrate with one of the best natural mineral waters and one of the best gourmet meats.

Meet the stars and legends

Another unique opportunity that can only be enjoyed at Climbing Madrid: meet, through meetings, dialogues and presentations, some of the biggest stars and legends of climbing, both national and international. And look what level you are.

Carlos Suarez, climber, alpinist, base jumper, lecturer and even writer, one of the great national icons, acts as master of ceremonies and interviewer. At 5.30 pm he will give a welcome and, at 5.50 pm, he will talk to Geila Macià, called to be the next queen of climbing, about how sport can help prevent ‘bullying’ and anorexia.

At 6.15 p.m., he meets a true international legend, Chris Sharmathe dominator of the almost impossible rock routes, a Californian based in Catalonia, to present the section Conversations d’alçada and, at 6.30 p.m., he talks with the great Shauna CoxseyBritish, Bouldering World Cup champion 2016 and 2017 (Boulder wall).

Carlos Suárez himself will close at 6.45 pm with his presentation Mountains of freedom. But not without first going to the Boulder Wall with Chris Sharma and Shauna Coxsey. Don’t miss it, because they will be there until 7.15 pm. And you?
