The great ‘sustainable’ ally of Climbing Madrid that thinks about future generations

Nearly 30,000 attendees attended what is already considered the largest climbing event held in Spain, Climbing Madrid, which from June 14 to 16 populated Arroyomolinos with climbing shoes, walls and blocks enthusiasts. This unprecedented party was organized by Prensa Ibérica and Indoorwall, -and promoted by the Madrid’s community with collaboration of Arroyomolinos City Hall-, and had the support of powerful sponsorships such as that of Toyota.

Toyota’s presence at this event went beyond the installation of an arch next to the climbing competition wall – through which the competitors left the Spanish Difficulty and Paraclimbing Championship-, or the exhibition of two models of Toyota C-HR Plug-in Hybrid for festival attendees. Because, Toyota has not only supported this growing event and sport, but also shares and promotes fundamental values such as respect for the environment and sustainability.

And this climbing boom is explained by each of the 60 hours that were given during Climbing Madrid and in which the Spanish Climbing and Paraclimbing Championships in their different categories -and the Madrid Championship- were contested in a international competition wallcertified by the IFSC (International Federation of Sport Climbing) and used in the World Championship two years ago in Innsbruck (Austria). In addition, unique moments were experienced such as the interviews conducted by the climber and mountaineer Carlos Suarez to the british Shauna Coxsey and to the American Chris Sharma. The professional Dakar driver could also be heard, Albert Lloverawho continues to inspire the entire society from his wheelchair.

Beyond that, attendees were also able to become protagonists thanks to an exciting open popularin which amateur climbers were able to demonstrate their skills by climbing a wall of boulder identical to that used in the Spanish Cup. The success of this initiative resulted in more than 7,700 participants – some from schools and institutes –. Each of them was able to check their level thanks to a digital ranking and win sports equipment, among other prizes, according to their expertise and classification. Never before had professional and amateur climbing been combined in the same event and this was another of the successes that has promoted Climbing Madrid.
