The story begins with Kieran, a Scottish fan who had attended his team’s match against Switzerland in Cologne. He had forgotten his mobile phone in a portable toilet. But Kieran was lucky: five German fans found the device, took a selfie and handed it in. Kieran eventually got his phone back intact and found the happy photo of the finders on it.
The Scottish fans, who call themselves the “Tartan Army,” shared the story X (formerly Twitter). They posted the picture and wrote: “Can we find these fans?” The reactions in the comments were overwhelmingly positive. Many users praised the honesty and friendliness of the Germans – and even jokingly wondered why they hadn’t charged their cell phone batteries.

Scottish fans “love the Germans and their beautiful country”
A user on X commented: “The Germans are honestly the most amazing people I have ever met. I love them and their beautiful country.” Another added: “I have only had good experiences with Germans.” There are also already plans to build a “tunnel” or a “giant bridge” between Germany and Scotland in order to be directly connected. Other Scots promise on social media that they will “definitely return to Germany”.
One fan summed it up: “An absolutely brilliant place. I said before the tournament started that Germany was the best place in the world to host a football tournament and now I am even more certain.” These statements reflect the general mood that was triggered by the action of the German fans.

And of course, it happened as it had to: The cell phone finders were tracked down themselves – a former school friend gave the crucial tip. According to Cologne City Advertiser he had seen the photo online and contacted Caro (who did not want to reveal her last name). She could hardly believe her sudden fame; the posts reached millions of people around the world on social networks.
The woman from Cologne finally contacted the Scottish fans, saying: “For the German-Scottish friendship. We had great experiences with Scottish fans at the game.” That evening, she had gone into the very same portable toilet cabin where Kieran had previously forgotten his mobile phone.

Dem Cologne City Advertiser she explained that her husband had the selfie idea – then the five friends from Cologne gave the phone to a volunteer and Kieran was able to hold it in his hands again a day later. Was there already an invitation for a trip to Scotland? Nothing is known – but with the German-Scottish friendship, nothing can be ruled out.
