The Latvian basketball team will prepare for the Olympic qualification without Škeela

The head coach of the national team, Luka Banki, had included 24 basketball players in the expanded circle of national team candidates, but now their number has decreased to 17.

From the extended list of candidates, Škēle, Krišs Helmanis, Ojārs Siliņš, Kārlis Šiliņš, Artis Ate, Mārtiņš Laksa and Toms Leimanis are not included in the seventeen.

From Monday, June 3, candidates for the national team have the opportunity to participate in individual training sessions in Riga. The official national team training camp will start on June 17.

During the preparation, two test matches are planned – on June 26, “Arena Riga” with the Egyptian national team and on June 28 away with the Finnish national team.

The battle for the right to play in the Paris Olympic Games tournament will take place in “Arena Riga” from July 2 to 7.

The national team of Latvia will play in subgroup A with the national team of Georgia and the team of the Philippines. The two best teams of the subgroup will play one of the best teams of subgroup B (Brazil, Montenegro and Cameroon) in the semi-finals on Saturday. The winners of the semi-final matches will fight for the only ticket to Paris on Sunday, July 7.
