The “next generation” Latvian basketball players defeat the young talents of Finland

Kristaps Ķilps was the top scorer in the Latvian national team with 19 points and six rebounds, while Dāvids Vīksne added 17 points and seven rebounds. Miro Little scored 23 points and grabbed 11 balls for the Finnish team.

The teams will meet again on Thursday.

For the second year already, alongside the preparation process of the Latvian men’s national basketball team, work is being organized with Latvian basketball players who have passed the age of the youth national team, but are not yet involved in the regular work of the main team.

From June 3 to 14, the “Next Generation” training camp is taking place in Riga, to which 15 basketball players from six Latvian teams, Austrian and Spanish clubs, as well as US universities have been invited. The work will be concluded with two training matches with the second national team of Finland. Toms Skuja, Rodrigo Būmeisters and Dāvids Vīksne participate in this program for the second year.

Last year, the “Latvijas Misija 2025” team lost to the Finnish young talent team “Susijengi Rising Stars” (66:79) in the mini-tournament in Helsinki and beat the Estonian team (69:52).

The team is led in training and matches by head coach Roberts Štelmacher, who is assisted by coaches Czeslav Mateikovič and Ernest Kalve, as well as physical training coach Oskar Ernstein.
