The Philadelphia Sixers Pursuing Kentavious Caldwell-Pope: A Hidden Gem in NBA Free Agency

Sometimes franchises become engrossed in the pursuit of a big star when an elite complement could take them to the next step without the sit-ins that big names are used to. The Philadelphia Sixers’ agenda is full of Paul George, Brandon Ingram or Jimmy Butler. But it seems that there is also room for a player with a much lower profile but of vital importance in two of the last five championships won. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has yet to resolve his future with the Denver Nuggets. And the Sixers have him in the bedroom in case the negotiations fall on deaf ears.

This is what Zach Lowe said in your podcast in ESPN. The Nuggets already lost Bruce Brown and Jeff Green last year for not being able to compete with offers from two teams with plenty of salary space. It was the case of Pacers and Rockets. And it is the case again with the Sixers, with $60 million to put on the table this summer.

The shooting guard has a player option of 15 million for next season. But knowing that Denver only has the flexibility to renew the players it already has in the fray, it is normal for him to leave his contract to obtain a more lucrative and long-term one. Surely above 20 million annually. A figure that Daryl Morey seems willing to put on the table and we will have to see if Calvin Booth manages to get Stan Kroenke out.
