The rain and the signings make the Mugello test less important

MADRID, 3 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The rain at the official MotoGP test held this Monday in Mugello, the scene of the Italian Grand Prix last weekend, disrupted the teams’ plans, with South African Brad Binder the fastest on a day marked by movements in offices.

The wet conditions prevented the tests that everyone wanted, especially those most in need of finding improvements, and only 16 of the 23 drivers recorded times. Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) was the fastest with a time of 1:47.617, 33 thousandths faster than the Spanish Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3).

Binder’s was in fact the most notable update on the Italian track. The Pierer Mobility Group bikes had new aerodynamics, the same as they had at the Jerez test, with the update essentially sheathing the entire side fairing, now turning it into a completely smooth surface.

It was also a good day for Repsol Honda, as Luca Marini finished third, with the Italian clocking up to 40 laps in the different conditions. His partner, the Spanish Joan Mir, said that a new engine was going to be tested, but that it only represents a slight change compared to the current one. The Australian Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) was fourth, while the Spanish Maverick Viñales (Aprilia Racing) was sixth.

Aprilia gave more news off the track as it announced the signing for next season of the Spanish Jorge Martín to replace Aleix Espargaró, with which the Madrid native will leave Ducati after four years without getting on the official bike.

The only two Ducati riders who came out and set a time were Franco Morbidelli (Prima Pramac Racing) and Álex Márquez (Gresini Racing), fifteenth and sixteenth. The Spanish Marc Márquez was also on everyone’s lips for his possible move towards the official Ducati after Martín’s goodbye.

With a private test coming up in Valencia for Yamaha, both Spaniard Alex Rins and Frenchman Fabio Quartararo rode less than 20 times, with neither of them going out when the track was dry.
