The Raos 7 and 8 docks of the Port of Santander now have more docking lines and a ramp |

The Port of Santander has worked on the extension of the Raos 8 dock and the installation of a hydraulic ramp at Raos 7 through financing from the Brexit Adaptation Reserve Funds.

Regarding this, the president of the Port Authority of Santander (APS), César Díaz, highlighted, during the inauguration of the works on the Raos 7 and 8 docks, that this new action will allow “optimizing the port space, gaining agility in the loading and unloading of cars”, something that is “fundamental for our operators”.

During his visit to the new port facilities, Díaz was accompanied by the Minister of Industry, Employment, Innovation and Commerce, Eduardo Arasti; the government delegate, Eugenia Gómez de Diego; the mayor of Santander, Gema Igual and the Minister of Development, Territorial Planning and Environment, Roberto Media.

The president of the Port has explained that the 23 meters of berthing length gained in the operation “will allow two deep-sea vessels of 229 and 200 meters in length to operate simultaneously, compared to the current situation that only allows the docking of two vessels of 200 meters in length. meters, or a single vessel if it exceeds this measurement.” Furthermore, the installation of the roro ramp will serve to “increase the service offer to roro vessels with a stern ramp”, he has assured.

Díaz has also pointed out that the work, carried out by the UTE COPSESA-CIOMAR SL and which has involved an investment of 2,772,633 euros, includes the generation of a new storage space on land for 400 vehicles, so it will be possible to “reduce operation times”, thus being “more efficient” in boarding and disembarking.

Likewise, lowered norais have been located in Raos 8, at the height of the dock edge, so that ships with a side ramp can work on them, “thus optimizing the dock line and allowing more ships to dock at Raos 8.” added the top leader of the port institution.
