Three matches of the men’s European football championships were played on Friday 21 June: at 3pm Ukraine won 2-1 against Slovakia and reached them with 3 points in group E.
In group D, however, Austria beat Poland 3-1, while Holland and France drew 0-0.

After losing badly on their debut against Romania, Ukraine came from behind to beat Slovakia (who had surprisingly won against Belgium), getting back into the running for qualification for the round of 16. For Ukraine these are not Europeans like the others.

With the 3-1 defeat against Austria, however, Poland is now certain of being eliminated. Piatek’s equalizer in the 30th minute seemed to have reopened some possibilities, but Christoph Baumgartner’s goal and then Marko Arnautovic’s penalty (after a foul by Wojciech Szczesny on Marcel Sabitzer) ended the match. Poland therefore remains at 0 points.

Holland-France was the most anticipated match of the day. Both teams won on their debut and, with a victory, they would have qualified for the round of 16 with a match to spare. However, it ended in a draw, 0-0: a goal by the Dutch Xavi Simons was disallowed due to an offside position by Denzel Dumfries.
There was anticipation to see whether Kylian Mbappé, France’s most representative footballer, would be on the pitch after he broke his nose in the match against Austria. Yesterday he trained with a protective mask and therefore seemed ready to play, but in the end he remained on the bench. Holland and France are now top of group D with 4 points each, followed by Austria with 3 points.
