The third round of the European Football Championship begins

Both games will start at 22:00 Latvian time. Championship games are broadcast live on “Go3 Sport Open” and TV6 channels.

In the opening games of Group A, the Germans beat Scotland 5-1 and Switzerland beat Hungary 3-1, but in the second round Germany beat the Hungarians 2-0 and the Swiss and Scots played to a 1-1 draw.

After two rounds of matches in Group A, Germany has six points, having already secured a place in the playoffs. Switzerland has four points, Scotland has one point, and Hungary has no points.

The Scotland-Hungary match will take place in Stuttgart.

Defender Ryan Porteus will not be able to help the Scots after a red card in the first game, and another defender, Kieran Tierney, has settled down with a muscle injury. On the other hand, Hungary’s Calum Stiles, born in England, who was slightly injured in the final test match, will probably be able to help.

The two teams have only met on the pitch in test matches, the Hungarians being superior in four, and the Scottish players celebrating their victory in three matches.

Meanwhile, German and Swiss football players will compete in Frankfurt.

While all of Germany’s players are lined up ahead of the final group game, it is not yet known whether Swiss defender Fabian Scherr, who suffered a broken nose against Scotland, will play.

The last time the two teams met on the pitch was in the Nations League matches in 2020, with both matches ending in a draw (1:1 and 3:3). A year before that, in 2012, the Swiss celebrated their victory in the test match, and in this match, the two current national team captains – Granit Xhaka and Ilkaj Gindoan – went on the field.

24 national teams, divided into six subgroups, participate in the final tournament of the European Championship. The winners of the first two places in each subgroup and the four best teams from the third-placed national teams will enter the elimination tournament.

The 2024 European Championship will be held in ten German cities from June 14 to July 14. The new European champion will be determined at the Berlin Olympic Stadium.

The current European champion is Italy, who in 2021 defeated England in the final in London in penalty kicks.
