Lucy was vacationing in Maine with her parents, her sister and two brothers. On June 1, they were playing badminton in the front yard when the parents suddenly heard a loud scream. A horrific accident had occurred.
During a game of badminton, a racket broke, the handle came loose during a downward stroke and a sharp piece entered the skull of the girl who was watching from the side. According to police, the aluminum shaft of the badminton racket had become separated from the wooden handle.
“She was still breathing, but unresponsive,” the father testified. Lucy was taken to hospital by helicopter, but the girl died there.
