The Voyageurs de Jonquière, of the Quebec Junior Elite Baseball League, will lend a hand this summer to the relaunch of baseball in the upper part of Lac-Saint-Jean.
Not only will the team show up a few times to hold clinics with the young people, but also two players from the Voyageurs will come to offer a training camp for a week in Dolbeau-Mistassini later this summer.
In fact, the Dolbeau-Mistassini Minor Baseball Association and the Voyageurs came to an agreement in the last few days to hold three clinics in the area.
The first clinic will take place on June 26 in Saint-Félicien. A second will be held on July 3 in Roberval and a third clinic will be held on July 10 in Dolbeau-Mistassini.
“Three Wednesdays in a row, in three different municipalities, we will have the chance to welcome Voyageurs coaches to our home. They will do exercises with the young people, whether introductory or advanced for those who are already familiar with baseball. It was they, the Voyageurs, who approached us since they wanted to give back to the community. We jumped at the opportunity,” says Jimmy Laliberté, president of the Dolbeau-Mistassini Minor Baseball Association.
These clinics will be offered free of charge to all young people aged 6 to 14. Jimmy Laliberté believes that these clinics could have a positive impact on the development of baseball in the sector.
“Last year, we had a clinic like this and it worked really well. We felt a craze for baseball afterwards and we saw a few young people sign up afterwards. »
Camp
Also, from August 5 to 9, two Voyageurs players will come to hold a baseball camp in Dolbeau-Mistassini.
Jean-Benoît Simard-Gagnon and Marc-Alexandre Guérin recently launched their camp called JBMA, which aims to train new players and perfect the development of already experienced players.
“During this week, with the young people, they will do training, small matches and they will also do other sports which will allow them to develop other skills useful for baseball.”
