Paris. Swimming in the Pond of Apollo in Versailles, doing a forehand in the Oval Room of the National Library of France or executing a pirouette in the Holy Chapel, was what a group of French athletes did who posed for Afp in Paris a few weeks of the Olympic Games.
The tennis player Diane Parry, the athlete Arnaud Assoumani, long jump champion, the basketball player Laëtitia Guapo, the canoeist Marjorie Delassus and the handball player Nikola Karabatic, almost all of the nearly 20 athletes who participated in this photographic series, were selected for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games (July 26 to August 11) and the Paralympics (August 28 to September 8).
The idea was to get them out of the stadium and take them on a sightseeing tour of the emblematic places of Paris, explained Joël Saget, one of the three Agence France Presse photographers who worked on the project, which also included the participation of photojournalists Stefano Rellandini. and Franck Fife.
For the sessions, they looked for times when these monuments were empty.
We had to adapt to the availability of the athletes, who very often train outside of Paris, and to that of the museums and monuments, said Rellandini.
The last time I came to the Orsay Museum, it was on a school trip, said cyclist Matthias Dandois, nine-time flat BMX world champion, smiling.
On the other hand, the organizers of the Games yesterday carried out a second drill on the Seine River for the opening ceremony.
Nearly 200 Olympic delegations will participate in the parade with more than 80 boats, which has become a topic of conversation due to potential dangers.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organization warns that temperatures will soar this summer in Europe, during the Olympic event and the 2024 UEFA European Football Championship.
