The Oklahoma City Thunder have decided not to exercise the 2024-25 options on the contracts of guard Isaiah Joe ($2.1 million) and winger Aaron Wiggins ($2 million).
The Thunder will work on a new deal for both players, according to Shams Charania.
Sam Presti will have around 30 million available for Free Agency, but his plans are not yet clear.
Theoretically OKC could spend all the salary space, and only then sign Joe and Wiggins’ new contracts.
According to expert Yossi Gozlan, this way the team could maximize the depth of the roster before the new contracts of Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams, two of the pillars of the young Thunder who spent the regular season at the top of the Western Conference.
Joe averaged 8.1 points in 18 minutes last year on 41% long-range shooting, while Wiggins averaged 6.9 points (56% FG) in 15 minutes.
This makes a ton of sense for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
They can still spend $30 million in cap space before re-signing Isaiah Joe and Aaron Wiggins with their free agent rights.
They’ll still have a lot of room below the $171.3 million luxury tax after using up their cap…
