Timberwolves, the latest news on the future of Karl-Antony Towns

Karl-Anthony Towns’ future with the Minnesota Timberwolves could depend on how the dispute between Glen Taylor and the group led by the Marc Lore/Alex Rodriguez duo for control of the franchise is resolved.

The agreement for the handover was supposed to close in March, the deadline of a multi-year agreement which already provided for the purchase by Rodriguez and Lore of a 40% minority share of the team.

At the deadline, however, Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor released a statement on the team’s website saying he had pulled out of the deal after Lore and Rodriguez failed to meet the terms of the agreement to close the deal.

News on the matter is expected soon, but in the NBA there is already speculation that the Lore/Rodriguez group could sell Towns to save on salaries and the luxury tax.

For next season there are 3 agreements in the salary pool well over 40 million (Towns’ 49.3), for a total of around 191 million for 10 players.

Brian Windhorst’s comment: “I don’t think they will tear the team apart, however I think that in the event of a change of ownership the role of Karl Towns could be re-evaluated.”

Towns ended the season with over 21 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists per game in the regular season, while in the playoffs after a good start his performance dropped in the Conference Final against Dallas.
