The Netherlands will have to do without Frenkie de Jong at the upcoming European Championships in Germany. The FC Barcelona midfielder is struggling with an ankle injury and will not be fit in time. National coach Ronald Koeman is at a loss.
After the news was announced that De Jong will miss the European Championship, Koeman gave an initial response to the Dutch NOS. The national coach only knew this afternoon that De Jong could not go to the European Championship. Tests have shown that the playmaker has not recovered sufficiently from an ankle injury.
Relapse on training
De Jong appeared on the training field at our northern neighbors last week, but Koeman confirmed that De Jong always suffered after an effort. Ultimately, the decision was made and De Jong will not travel to Germany. According to the selector, he will not be one hundred percent fit and there is no point in taking De Jong with him.
The Netherlands impressed in the last friendly matches for the European Championship. Canada was defeated 4-0 and on Monday evening it had no problems with Iceland (also 4-0).
