He didn’t wait to enter his final. Stade Toulouse captain Antoine Dupont launched his team by going to score, in force, the first try of this final Top 14 match of the season against Bordeaux-Bègles this Friday evening. The scrum half and captain of the reigning French champions made the difference by resisting a tackle before breaking away to flatten in the goal of the Vélodrome stadium in Marseille, where he exceptionally won the Brennus Shield of this 2023-2024 season.
A difference made in the sixth minute of play against the Girondins, outsiders against the recent European champions. The French rugby star is, on the try, also involved in the penultimate pass where he serves his second row Thibaud Flament to advance in the defense of the Union Bordeaux-Bègles. His first try in the Top 14 final which he is playing for the fourth time.
The 27-year-old repeated the feat in the 23rd minute. Served in the middle, the scrum-half adjusted his Bordeaux counterpart Maxime Lucu, who he plays alongside in the French XV, with a little kick to lob him before running to score another try, the third of the match, in the Bordeaux in-goal. With, as a bonus, a nice little celebration dive full of joy to flatten.
Antoine Dupont has the opportunity to win his fourth French champion title since arriving in Toulouse after the coronations of 2019, 2021, 2023 and potentially this season. The player will then move on to the French rugby sevens team with which he will aim for the gold medal at the Paris Olympic Games this summer.
