Being on par with Eddy Merckx is not enough for him. Mark Cavendish will arrive on this 2024 Tour de France with the ambition of overtaking the Belgian legend, with whom he shares the number of stage victories on the Grande Boucle, 34. The Briton is therefore setting off again for a 15th Tour de France.

However, last year, he announced his retirement after having abandoned during the 8th stage, victim of a fall sixty kilometers from the finish while he was in the peloton, the Briton having broken his collarbone of the right shoulder.

But the Astana Qazaqstan Team sprinter has not said his last word. The one who was knighted during the parade on the birthday of King Charles III, ten days ago, is not lacking in distinction in the world of cycling and has therefore delayed his retirement for a year in the hope of breaking the record for victories in the Tour de France.

World champion (2011), double British champion (2013, 2022), winner of Milan San Remo (2019) and 54 stages over the three Grand Tours, in 19 years of career Mark Cavendish has left his mark on his era. With this record, he wants to be able to stay at the top for many years to come.
