Toyota C-HR, an SUV not to go unnoticed

Renewing one of their most successful cars is always one of the most complicated missions for brands. With the Toyota C-HR, the brand faced a real challenge, since the first generation of its compact SUV was quite an earthquake in a hyper-competitive market thanks to its aesthetic, conceptual and technological proposal. Having become a best-seller, the Japanese firm had a great challenge when it came to renewing it. We knew the result was going to be surprising, but Toyota has done it again.

Presented in the middle of last year, the second generation of the Toyota C-HR was to be, as the first was, aesthetically groundbreaking. In that sense, Toyota has opted for a design that does not go unnoticed. Faithful to the prototype shown at the end of 2022, Toyota has further accentuated the coupe character of the crossover, with a sharper and more forceful image.

Designed from a pattern of overlapping shapes, the overall fluidity is contrasted by several lines of character, which provide a greater sense of robustness and poise. The sportiness added by its large wheels – up to 20 inches – and the short overhangs make the Toyota C-HR appear dynamic and powerful, but also advanced, with a certain futuristic air. Available in a two-tone combination that extends the black roof to the rear third of the roof, the character of the Toyota C-HR will stand out within the segment.

It is worth noting, from a design point of view, that its sharp overall shape contributes to superior aerodynamic performance that is not only attractive to the eye, but also allows it to add efficiency.

Digital and advanced experience

Inside, the user finds a fully digital and driver-oriented ecosystem to facilitate all controls. The horizontal arrangement of its screens, together with a wing-shaped design, makes passengers feel enveloped and safe, enhancing comfort.

In its interior design, the Toyota C-HR stands out for its 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and an eight- or 12.3-inch central touch screen depending on the finish for managing the intuitive and easy-to-use operating system. , as well as compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto applications. Toyota promises a leap forward in terms of quality, both in its materials and in the multimedia experience on board.

Efficient and safe

The new Toyota C-HR is available on the market with three electrified engines in a faithful commitment to the brand’s multi-technology philosophy. In this case, it has two HEV hybrid variants of 1.8 and 2.0 liters of 140 and 197 HP, respectively, and a PHEV plug-in hybrid version – called 220 PH – with 223 HP of power. The most powerful HEV, called 200H, can mount Toyota’s intelligent all-wheel drive system AWD-i, although only in the GR Sport trim.

The PHEV engine offers up to 66 kilometers of 100% electric autonomy, more than enough to cover daily journeys, and has functions such as energy regeneration, which not only allows you to extend your autonomy, but also implement one-pedal driving, with up to three levels of retention when decelerating.

As it could not be otherwise, this technological deployment, both in terms of connectivity and efficiency, is accompanied by an arsenal of active safety systems, such as the pre-collision system, the control of incorrect acceleration at low speed, the proactive driving assistance, adaptive cruise control, dynamic adjustment of high beams or emergency call, among others. All these systems, integrated within the Toyota Safety Sense range, make up one of the most advanced proposals on the market.

Toyota sells the new Toyota C-HR Hybrid in Spain from €31,750 and the plug-in hybrid version from €37,000.
