28-year-old Allan Luvovadio from the Charleroi region went missing when he went swimming with two other tourists in the sea near the island of Phuket. The two other tourists, a Briton and a Yemeni, were rescued by beach lifeguards. The strong waves would have swept the Belgian away.

A search was launched, but was hampered by bad weather. According to local newspapers, Luvovadio’s body was found lifeless on Freedom Beach around 4:30 am local time. His body was taken to hospital for an autopsy.

The FPS Foreign Affairs confirms the death of a Belgian in Phuket, without providing further details about the identity of the person or the circumstances of the tragedy.

According to Phuket News, Luvovadio is the fifth drowning since June 9, when strong currents formed on Phuket’s west coast due to the southwest monsoon. Since then, beachgoers have been repeatedly warned not to go into the water. Red flags have been put up along Phuket’s west coast indicating where it is dangerous to swim.

The young Belgian was a hairdresser and avid football player. He played for KRC Gent and FC Ganshoren, among others. Since 2023 he has played for JS Tamines.
