Austria’s national team will definitely have to do without Gernot Trauner in the round of 16 of the European Football Championship on Tuesday (9 p.m., live on ServusTV) against Turkey. The central defender is still suffering from a muscle injury in his thigh area and will not be fit in time for the match in Leipzig, the ÖFB confirmed on Sunday. However, a possible appearance in a quarter-final has not been ruled out, it added.

Trauner was also the only player from the 26-man squad to be absent from training on Sunday. Before the session, team manager Ralf Rangnick was honored as German Football Ambassador of the Year 2024 by Roland Bischof, the founder and president of the German Football Ambassadors Association. The jury includes German legends Berti Vogts and Horst Hrubesch.
