Turkish Men’s National Football Team Defeats Georgia 3-1 in European Championship Opener in Dortmund

Turkish men’s national football team on Tuesday in Dortmund in the European Championship with 3:1 (1:1) beat Georgia, the debutants of the tournament. Merts Mildir, Arda Gilers and Kerem Aktirkolu stood out for the Turkish national team with accurate shots, while Giorgi Mikutadze scored the first Georgian goal in the history of the European Championship

The Turks had a good chance to take the lead in the tenth minute, but Kaan Ayhan hit the post and the ball then rolled over the goal line. As Turkey continued to apply pressure in the attack, in the 25th minute, the Turks still managed to make it 1:0, when after the Georgian defender Lasha Dvali tried to get the ball away from his own goal, his shot went to Mildirs, who confidently sent it into the Georgian goal.

Less than a minute after the first goal scored, the Turks managed to get the ball into the opponent’s goal again, but Kenan Yildiz’s accurate shot was disallowed due to the back. Georgia equalized less than seven minutes later when Mikautadze headed the ball into Turkey’s goal after Giorgi Kochorashvili’s pass from close range. A few minutes later, Mikautadze could stand out with another accurate shot, but the ball flew slightly past the goal.

In the second half, after 20 minutes played, Turkey’s one-goal advantage was restored by Gilers with a strong shot into the upper corner of the goal from a long distance. After conceding a goal, Georgians counter-attacked, but Giorgi Kochorashvili hit the crossbar. In stoppage time, Kochorashvili had another chance to score from close range, which was again inaccurate.

In the sixth minute of the injury time, the Georgians had two corner kicks that were unsuccessful, and later the Turkish players successfully intercepted the ball and brought it to the other side of the field, Aktirkolu ending the attack with an accurate shot.

It should be noted that there was not a fight between the fans of both teams in the stands.
