Turmoil in Guadeloupean Basketball: League Struggles to Appoint President

Guadeloupean basketball is still in turmoil. Without a captain, the Regional League cannot continue its activities calmly. The last elective general assembly did not make it possible to appoint a president, due in particular to irregularities. The name proposed by the steering committee was not validated by the club presidents.

The Guadeloupe Regional Basketball League (LRGBB) remains a ship without a captain. Club presidents have complained about the countless number of irregularities which marred the Elective General Assembly, which was held on Saturday morning (June 22, 2024) at CREPS des Abymes.

Ultimately, no president was named.
However, 31 candidates made themselves known to join the steering committee, which has 14 members.
After the vote, the newly elected actors withdrew. Together, they nominated the former general secretary of the League, Joël Manne, for the top position; but this proposal was refused by many club representatives.

Afterwards, it is not only this final part, where we did not validate the president that the steering committee proposed to us. This concerns the whole of the elections, where there were already quite a few problems. In this elective general assembly, the accounts were not proposed, there were delays in documents which were not provided, the addition of Saint-Martin which received its documents after the deadline… therefore, not a lot of worries in this AG, to finish, with a president that we do not validate.

The least we can say is that the debates were heated, punctuated by invectives and insults.

Ultimately, the participants separated, without the leader of the LRGBB being designated.
The steering committee has the power to propose a new name for the seat of president; the statutes of the League provide for automatic validation of this.

Several club presidents came together to co-sign a letter addressed to the French Basketball Federation; it is called upon to find solutions to restore order within the local authority.

As a reminder, Patrice Alexis was elected head of the Guadeloupe Regional Basketball League, for a fourth term, in July 2020. If he was able to join the steering committee this year, the outgoing president had to give up his place.
