First match for the U17s at the World Cup. First match in official competition for a youth team this summer 2024. And it couldn’t have been better: a resounding victory against Puerto Rico, an uncomfortable team to start the tournament with.

It was the first match of the first day in the Turkish U17 Men’s World Cup. Spain had defeated Puerto Rico in the Utebo Tournament in preparation, but the Puerto Ricans had left good feelings in the rest of the matches. That is to say, one of those ‘trap games’ that coaches fear.
But this generation, which comes from being European champions, has physique, talent… and competitiveness. At the end of the first quarter they went with a +5; at the break with +14… and the first victory was certified.
