Austria’s U20 women’s team will face Japan, New Zealand and Ghana in the group phase of their first participation in a World Cup finals in this age group. This was the result of the draw on Wednesday in Bogota. The World Cup with a total of 24 participants will be played in Colombia from August 31 to September 22. Austria was drawn from the fourth pot.
“It’s almost a dream draw for us because we will play all three group matches in Bogota and therefore won’t have to travel during that time,” said team manager Hannes Spilka, who was in the Colombian capital. Japan, as winners of the 2018 World Cup, are the clear favorites. The Austrians’ first opponent is Ghana on September 2nd, three days later they will face New Zealand, before Japan awaits at the end of the group on September 8th.
