The Ukraine vs Belgium match on matchday three of Group E Euro 2024 ended 0-0. This result takes the Red Devils to the Round of 16.
In the match which was held at the Stuttgart Arena, Wednesday (26/6/2024) evening WIB, Belgium and Ukraine appeared to attack for 90 minutes. Belgium made 14 attempts compared to Ukraine’s 11 attempts, with all of them having four opportunities to reach the target.
With the addition of one point, Belgium finished as runners-up in Group E with four points, losing on goal difference to Romania who won the group. Ukraine with four points must finish bottom.
The course of the Ukraine vs Belgium match
Belgium, who needed a win to qualify as group winners, played attacking from the early minutes. Relying on Jeremy Doku’s speed on the left side and Kevin De Bruyne’s passes, Belgium dominated the match.
Romelu Lukaku got the first chance in the seventh minute from De Bruyne’s cross, but his shot was saved by Anatoliy Turbin.

Ukraine threatened Belgium for the first time in the 20th minute through Roman Yaremchuk who fired a powerful shot into the goal. Koen Casteels can stop it.
In the 33rd minute, De Bruyne got a free kick from 30 meters. He released the ball over the right side of the live fence and just brushed the side of Trubin’s goal.
Casteels again saved his goal from being conceded when he parried Georgiy Sudakov’s shot in the 34th minute. Sudakov threatened Belgium again in the 44th minute but Casteels was able to secure the Ukrainian midfielder’s shot.
The score 0-0 closed the first half.
Entering the second half, Belgium still dominated the game to find a goal as soon as possible. However, Ukraine’s defense was still difficult to penetrate by Belgium’s combination of attacks.
Belgium refreshed their attack line by bringing on Yannick Carrasco and Orel Mangala after an hour of the match.
In the 65th minute, Lukaku had a chance to score a goal with a hard left foot kick which Trubin was able to parry.

Carrasco also met a dead end in his efforts to lead Belgium to the top. In the 73rd minute, Carrasco broke free from the opponent’s control and fired a kick at the edge of the penalty box that was stopped by Trubin.
As time went by, there were still no goals from either team. Ukraine almost scored from a corner situation when Ruslan Malinovskyi shot the ball straight into the goal.
Casteels quickly cleared it right on the goal line, before the ball was cleared by his partner and ended up in the corner.
Belgium had a chance to score a goal through a counter-attack in the 87th minute. Carrasco dribbled the ball close to the penalty box in a three-versus-two Ukrainian defender situation.
He gave the ball to De Bruyne on the right and finished with a short pass which Johan Bakayoko kicked, but it still went up.
Ukraine had a golden opportunity in the 90th minute when Sudakov stabbed into the penalty box. Once he found shooting space, he directed the ball into the goal and right into Casteels’ catch.
No goals were scored until the end of the match and the score 0-0 sent both teams to the dressing room. Belgium qualified for the last 16 of Euro 2024 as group runners-up, behind Romania.
