It was discovered that some sports clubs in the Jeonbuk region were using school gymnasiums for commercial purposes such as lessons.
According to the Iksan Office of Education on the 20th, a report was received that Badminton Club A was providing lessons to members for money at Irinam Middle School, Iksan Busong Middle School, and Iribuk Middle School.
In order to encourage daily physical education, schools open facilities such as gymnasiums and playgrounds, but this is abused. Under current regulations, school facilities other than swimming pools cannot be used for commercial purposes.
Complaints about the use of school gymnasiums for commercial purposes have been consistently filed since March of this year. Through Kookmin Shinmun High School, there have been reports that badminton clubs are giving lessons at Wonkwang Girls’ Middle School, Iridong Elementary School, Irigohyeon Elementary School, and Iksan Eoyang Middle School. It is reported that the complainant pointed out problems with the use of gymnasiums for commercial purposes and requested measures at the educational authorities level.
An official from the Iksan Office of Education said, “We have advised the school to be careful to ensure that the gym is not used for profit.”
