Unbelievable scenes in Gorzów. Zmarzlik’s nightmare in the final of the Polish GP

The Polish Grand Prix in Gorzów is the sixth round of the individual world championship this season. After competitions in Gorican, Warsaw, Landshut and Prague, defending champion Bartosz Zmarzlik achieved his first victory in Malilla, Sweden. He had the opportunity to increase his lead in the general classification over second place Robert Lambert, especially since on Saturday the competitors competed on the track of Stal Gorzów, of which Zmarzlik is a student and knows this place like the back of his hand.

Woffinden’s Horrific Accident. Zmarzlik the Best in the Regular Season

The 29-year-old performed excellently from the very beginning. After three races, he was the only one in the group to have three wins, ahead of Martin Vaculik and Mikkel Michelsen. During the eighth run, when Zmarzlik was on the track, a fatal accident occurred involving Tai Woffinden, who, after contact with Huckenbeck, caught the rail, flew over the handlebars and fell to the ground. The run was interrupted and an ambulance arrived. The competitor probably lost consciousness and left the track on a stretcher.

The other Poles did averagely: Maciej Janowski, Dominik Kubera and Szymon Woźniak. The latter had the best chance of winning in the ninth race. Although he won the start and the run, he was later overtaken by Mikkel Michelsen. Jakub Miśkowiak came in for Woffindern, but he finished last.

The next race and… Zmarzlik was very lucky. The defending champion hit a barrier on the first lap and lost control of the vehicle for a moment. However, he quickly managed to avert the danger and seal another victory. Fredrik Lindgren proved his good form in the 11th heat and confidently defeated his rivals, including fourth place Oskar Fajfer.

Few expected that he would be the one to stop Zmarzlik in the 13th heat. Even though the world champion started much better, Fajfer overtook him on the second corner and never gave up the lead. Thus, he wasted his chance for full points. Then, we unexpectedly saw Oskar Paluch on the track, who replaced Jankowski because he hit the tape. However, the 18-year-old was unable to compete with his rivals.

After 17 heats we already knew that Zmarzlik and Fredrik Lindgren were certain to advance to the semi-finals, as they were the only ones with double-digit points. Woźniak did great, winning this race and overtaking Jack Holder. Dominik Kubera came last. There was a big surprise in the 19th heat, as Zmarzlik finished third, while Leon Madsen won. The last heat ended with Michelsen’s victory, while Fajfer came fourth and was eliminated from the competition.

Zmarzlik couldn’t cope. Big disappointment in the grand finale

The first semi-final ended with… an accident. Zmarzlik was an unchallenged leader, but he had no influence on what was happening behind his back. There was a lot going on there, as Holder fell after contact with Madsen, and Huckenberg also fell down his motorcycle. Therefore, the race had to be repeated, and this time the Dane overtook Zmarzlik, but the most important thing was that they both advanced to the final.

The second semi-final race started fantastically for Woźniak, but later he was overtaken by his rivals. He was unable to get back into the race, especially since Lindgren and Michelsen had escaped the pack and confidently filled the finalists. The final started brilliantly for Zmarzlik, who took a place at the curb. Lindgren fought, did everything he could to overtake the Pole and achieved his goal, and then did not give up the lead and won the race. – Unbelievable, no shame in losing to such a powerful Lindgren – reported Eurosport commentators.
