Vaičule Shines at Latvian Championship: Breaks Personal Record and Earns Olympic Qualifying Time

Vaičule ran 400 meters in 50.83 seconds, improving his personal record by 0.42 seconds, while the Olympic qualifying standard was 50.95 seconds.

She also achieved the highest result of the first day of the Latvian championship and, according to the World Athletics score table, she was assessed with 1172 points for her result in the 400-meter race.

After the success, Vaičule said in an interview to Latvijas Televīzisia that the numbers were already in his head, that the limit of 51 seconds seemed unbreakable. Vaichule’s self-belief had faded, but with self-motivation everything turned out successfully.

“Today was all or nothing,” Vaicule said.

Also, a new personal record was achieved by Oskars Grava, who completed the 100-meter sprint in 10.25 seconds, improving his best result by 0.13 seconds, and achieved the second highest result of the day – 1122 points.

On the other hand, in the women’s competition, Elizabete Kociņa celebrated the victory in the 100-meter sprint, finishing in 11.86 seconds.

Patriks Gailums won the gold medal in the men’s javelin throw, who threw the javelin 79.39 meters, while Anete Kociņa was the best in the women’s competition, reaching the mark of 60.28 meters.

In the long jump, Kitty Paula Melnbarde became the champion for the second year in a row, who reached 6.31 meters and broke her personal record. In the men’s competition, the best result in the long jump was achieved by Emils Bangevics (7.19 meters).

In another 1500 meter race, Agate Caune won the women’s competition, who completed the distance in four minutes and 21.54 seconds, while Nikita Bogdanovs was the first in the same discipline in the men’s competition (3:48.79).

Ralf Zazerski finished in 14.70 seconds and took first place in the 110-meter hurdle race, while Madara Lungeviča was the fastest in the women’s 100-meter hurdle race (13.78 seconds).

Laura Ozola won first place in the 3000-meter steeplechase in the women’s competition, who finished in 11 minutes and 34.03 seconds, while in the men’s competition, Aigars Feteris, as the only participant, completed the distance in ten minutes and 20.51 seconds.

In the pole vault, Sima Ashkinezere became the champion, overcoming the bar at a height of 4.15 meters.

Ralfs Eduards Gauja won the gold medal in the men’s shot put, throwing the shot 16.24 meters. In the women’s competition, Anna Gulbe achieved the best result (14.57 meters) in the shot put, who also won the hammer throw (48.55 meters). Edgars Gailis took the first place in the men’s hammer throw (56.88 meters).

Valmiera’s runners finished in 43.31 seconds in the 4×100 meter relay, while “Arkadija” runners won the first place in the women’s competition with a finish in 46.85 seconds.

The second day of the Latvian championship will be held on Sunday.
