Valladolid Archers Shine at the III Grand Prix of Spain Iberdrola Ciudad de Valladolid

The III Grand Prix of Spain Iberdrola Ciudad de Valladolid concluded with a bronze medal in the men’s compound bow for the Arco Club and a fourth place in this same event for the women.

22 teams from Spain and Portugal and a total of 278 archers colorfully populated the two main rugby fields of Pepe Rojo in the qualifiers where they managed to launch their arrows at the same time, giving a great show.

In compound bow, the first three classified in the preliminary phase were Ramón López (Etsit de Madrid) followed by Álvaro de los Santos (Club Asirio, Andalusia) and Gonzalo Linares (Etsit de Madrid). In women, Andrea Muñoz (Informática de Madrid), second her Community partner, Paula Díaz, and in third place Nur Gó-mez (Balearic Islands). However, the gold went to Luis Argüelles (Archers Team) who won by a single point 146-145 over Álvaro de los Santos for silver. Third was Gonzalo Linares. In women, the gold went to Andrea Muñoz who won 146-140 against the silver medalist, Nur Gómez. The bronze went to Paula Díaz (Etsit). In the compound bow ranking, Ana Alonso was classified in sixth position.

As for the Valladolid representation, Juan Ignacio del Moral (Arco Pucela) fell in thirty-two against Daniel Cobo, as did Pedro Rodríguez (Arco Club) against Eduardo Cruz and Joaquín Vázquez against Daniel Casillas.

Jorge González Espinilla (Arcolid) managed to advance one round until it fell to the eventual champion Luis Argüelles and that was the end of the championship. Manuel Héctor González (Arco Club) also went to the round of 32, but the door was closed by Adrián Martínez 142-140. And the same with his Arco Club teammate, Arturo Mateo, until he lost to Gonzalo Linares.

In the team competition, the best for the vallisoletans undoubtedly came from the hand of the composite men’s archery team with the Arco Club Valladolid (Daniel Cobo, Héctor González and Arturo Mateo) conquering the bronze medal. Silver was Etsit and gold, Computer Science (Luis Argüelles, Alvaro Pardo and Gonzalo Sanchez Ferrero). In female, the victory went to Computer Science, with Nuria Enriquez, Andrea Muñoz and Veronica Presa, followed by Sant Josep and Etsit. Precisely the Informatica madrileñas were imposed on Arco Club 224 to 220 in the semifinals. For third and fourth place, the vallisoletanas (Ana Alonso, María Gómez and Laura González) fell 217-205 with Etsit rolling the medal.

At the end of the qualification phase, the first three finishers in the recurve bow were Miguel Alvariño (Silex, Galicia), Luis Gonçalves (Portugal) and Yago Revuelto (As-turias) while in women Paula Álvarez (Arco Astur de Asturias), Marta Aznar (Asirio, Andalusia) and Milana Tkachenko (Portugal). In the end, the title in the Grand Prix went to Luis Gonçalves, followed by Miguel Alvariño and Yago Revuelto, while in women Nerea López (S’arc Eivissa) won over Marta Aznar and Paula Álvarez.

The only Valladolid player who made it to the next round was Rubén Santiago (Arcolid), although he lost to Carlos Iglesias (Etsit). In women, Sandra Bastián, who in the end was the best in the ranking with a ninth place, was among the 32 best and gave in to the power of Marta Aznar.

In mixed recurve teams the winner was Eivissa Patrimoni of the Humani of Ibiza while vallisoletans Sandra Bastian and Isidro Martinez were fifth.
