Anna van der Breggen gets back on her bike. From January 1, 2025, the former Olympic and world champion, now 34 years old, will return to the peloton as a professional rider. Sources tell NOS.

Van der Breggen will do this at SD Worx-Protime, the team for which she cycled before she ended her active career and where she has been team leader since 2022.

Van der Breggen’s farewell year: ‘I really enjoy doing new things’

Van der Breggen won a lot in her career: including an Olympic title in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, three world titles, the Giro d’Italia four times and the Flèche Wallonne seven times.

In 2022, she took the helm as a team leader at her SD Worx team and did a good job. The formation continued to win, last year even more than ever. Also thanks to Demi Vollering, the classification woman who was seen as her successor.

Gravel competition

Yet Van der Breggen, who will explain her decision later today at a press moment in Apeldoorn, never completely stored her racing bike.

She maintained her fitness level and was able to keep up with the current generation remarkably well during training camps recently. She even finished second in the Spanish gravel race Traka in May, leaving several riders from her team behind.

She returns just as Vollering is leaving the team on January 1.
