In the only practice session of the weekend, Verstappen suffered engine problems, but returned to the track and set a fastest time of one minute and 5.685 seconds. The Dutchman’s car remained on the track and the stewards had to take his car to the side, but the team mechanics quickly put the car in order. The second best time in the practice run was achieved by Piastri, but behind him were the two Ferrari drivers Leclair and Sainz. Fifth place was taken by Hamilton, sixth – Ocon, seventh – Stroll, eighth – Russell, but Perez took only 12th place.
