At the 2024 F1 Austrian GP, Max Verstappen won his third sprint race of the season, beating the McLarens of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, who completed the podium. Carlos Sainz managed to advance to fourth position after an impressive move, but eventually finished fifth after being overtaken again by George Russell. Fernando Alonso, meanwhile, could not improve on his initial performance and finished in sixteenth place, outside the points.
The race started with a clean start and few overtakes. Verstappen tried to pull away from the start, but both Norris and Piastri stayed close, leading to an exciting battle. Norris briefly got past Verstappen, but the Dutchman quickly regained the lead. Piastri took advantage of the situation to overtake his teammate and secure second place. Meanwhile, Sainz was unable to keep up with the pace of the leaders and faced constant pressure from the Mercedes. The lull came on lap 10, with Verstappen pulling away and Piastri pulling away from Norris, thus sealing the final positions.
