The Vert & Or badminton team from the University of Sherbrooke was in the Montreal metropolis last weekend for the RSEQ Provincial Women’s and Men’s Team Championship.
At the end of the championship, the Sherbrooke team led by Anthony Bouthillier Hénault won a third position on the women’s side and a 5th place on the men’s side.
Highlights
- Since it had finished the regular season in 3rd place, the Vert & Or women’s team launched its competition in the quarter-finals against the representatives of UQAM (5th position).
- The Vert & Or and Citadins clash ended with a score of 3-2 in favor of the Sherbrookoises thanks to the convincing victories of Maéli Pagé at singles #2 (21-10 and 21-11), Song Ling Chen and Jeanne Poirier at doubles #1 (21-8, 21-8) and rookies Laurence Gagnon and Otilia Leva at doubles #2 (21-8 and 21-14).
- In the semi-final, the Vert & Or faced the McGill Martlets. Despite the victory at doubles #2 by Jeanne Poirier and Andréanne Quenneville as well as very good performances and close matches of 3 sets in doubles #1 and singles #2, our color wearers had to admit defeat with a score of 4 -1 against those who subsequently won the provincial champion banner.
- On the men’s side, the Vert & Or launched their tournament in the quarter-finals against the third in the standings: the Rouge et Or of Laval University.
- In the very first match, Alexi Letarte of Vert & Or won brilliantly with scores of 21-15 and 21-16 during singles #3.
- The Sherbrooke men’s team, however, bowed after 4 games with a score of 4-1 against the Quebec team.
After the provincial women’s and men’s team championship, the Vert & Or now turns to the RSEQ individual championship which will take place from March 8 to 10 at the Cepsum of the University of Montreal.
