Victor Wembanyama Nominated for ESPY Awards: NBA Players Recognized in Various Categories

At rates of Victor Wembanyama in the United States is not decreasing. The reigning rookie of the year is nominated for ESPY Awards which reward the best athletes of the year each year. The Frenchman is cited in the “revelation of the year” category, alongside Haleigh Bryant (LSU gymnastics), CJ Stroud (Houston Texans – NFL) and Juju Watkins (USC – women’s basketball).

No NBA player is, however, in the running for the title of best sportsman of the year. For the trophy of best NBA player, we find unsurprisingly the trio of finalists for the title of MVP: Nikola Jokic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander et Luka Doncicas well as Jayson Tatum.

The latter’s teammate, Jaylen Brown, winner of the Finals MVP, is cited in the “best performance in a final” category. Zion Williamson also gets a nomination for the best comeback, while Anthony Edwards, with his “poster” on John Collins, can aim for the title of action of the year.

A’ja Wilson competing with Caitlin Clark

On the women’s side, we note the omnipresence of the Fever player Caitlin Clark, named in three trophy categories awarded by ESPN: best sportswoman of the year, best performance and best university sportswoman. In the first category, the former Iowa player competes with Coco Gauff (tennis), Nelly Korda (golf) and her Aces counterpart, A’ja Wilson.

We find the latter in the race for the title of best WNBA player, along with Napheesa Collier (Minnesota Lynx), Breanna Stewart (New York Liberty) and Alyssa Thomas (Connecticut Sun).

Big favorite for the title of best university player, Caitlin Clark could also be distinguished for the points record in this championship, which she seized during last season.

As for the best team, Celtics, Aces as well as the college teams that won their championship this year, South Carolina for girls and UConn for boys, are mentioned. The results should be known on July 11.
