VIDEO ⟩ “Panthers” hockey players beat “Oilers” in the first game of the Stanley Cup final series

“Panthers” lead 1-0 in the series up to four wins.

In the fourth minute of the game, after a pass by Aleksandar Barkov, Carter Verhege sent the puck into the goal unhindered. In the second period, after two minutes played, Evan Rodrigues made a shot towards the goal, which made it 2-0.

Five seconds before the end of regular time, Etu Luostirainen sent the puck into an empty net, and Barkov scored his second assist in the match.

Sergej Bobrovsky stopped all 32 shots in the Panthers goal, while Stuart Skinner managed 15 of 17 shots in the second goal.

On June 10, both teams will compete again in San Raiz, and on June 13 and 15, there will be matches in Edmonton. If more games are needed in the streak up to four wins, they will take place on June 18 in Sunrise, June 21 in Edmonton and June 24 in Sunrise, respectively. All games start at 3 a.m. Latvian time.

NHL rookie Balinsky has not played in the Stanley Cup. The Panthers have played all 18 games of this year’s Stanley Cup with six defenders without making any changes to the lineup.

The “Panthers” team has played in the NHL finals twice so far and lost both times, like the Colorado Avalanche in 1996 and the Vegas Golden Knights last year. In those years, Sandis Ozoliņš and Teodors Bļugers became the winners of the Stanley Cup, who are the only Latvians to lift the most prestigious trophy in hockey.
