The beaches of Adarró and Ribes Roges de Vilanova and Geltrú will host the June 7, 8 and 9 he Arena Handball Tourthe summer competition circuit organized by the Royal Spanish Handball Federation every year from June to August. The Catalan municipality will be the first stop of the Arena 1000 Beach Handballa tournament that will also pass through the beaches of the Sleeve of the Mar Menor, Cartagena, Torrox, The Line of Conception y Cadiz. An event that will fill Vilanova i la Geltrú with more than 1,700 athletes from all over Spain con 152 participating teams, 71 women and 81 men, of different categories.
This beach handball tournament is one of the legacies of the sailing America’s Cup. “A legacy that has allowed us to position Vilanova i la Geltrú as a city capable of hosting events of this magnitude and that complement the cultural, recreational and gastronomic offer present all year round. We are committed to the blue economy as a driving element of the city, around the sea, the beach and nautical activities,” explained the mayor of the Catalan municipality, Juan Luis Ruizduring the presentation of the competition.
In addition to the infrastructure and space, four teams from the city will participate in the competition. Specifically, there will be the female and male sections of the infant and the cadet of the Vilanova Handball Club. “Of the 152 teams there are 92 of base players. The Arena Handball Tour returns to Catalonia eight years later. The last time this event was held in the territory was in Calella (2016). Now, Vilanova i la Geltrú has prepared a unique setting to host this benchmark beach handball event. In total, the beaches of Darró and Ribes Roges will have nine fields for the tournament. The center, with a stands with capacity for 600 spectators, will host the most relevant matches and the finals of each category. “Vilanova beach is our blue pavilion. Impact of 400 thousand euros for Vilanova i la Geltrú

Free shuttle bus service
During the Arena 1000 celebration, no special traffic effects are expected in Vilanova i la Geltrú, but the City Council recommends accessing the maritime area on foot, by bicycle or public transport. In fact, a special free shuttle bus service will be enabled, which will operate all day on Saturday and Sunday morning. The starting point of the journey will be the round of Europe park and ride (in front of the Leroy Merlín) and will have several stops along the seafront.
