Vincent Kompany: Bayern Munich’s New Coach Leading the Way

Bayern have finally found their coach in Vincent Kompany.

Before the deal with Kompany, sports director Max Eberl (50) and sports director Christoph Freund (46) had received prominent rejections from Xabi Alonso (42/Leverkusen), Julian Nagelsmann (37/DFB) and Ralf Rangnick (65/Austria).

Other coaches like Roberto de Zerbi (44/now without a club after parting ways with Brighton) or Roger Schmidt (57/Benfica) preferred to stay with their clubs from the start, preferred to move to the Premier League like Julen Lopetegui (57/West Ham) or were not given permission to move like Oliver Glasner (49) from Crystal Palace.

A situation that is absurd for former coach Felix Magath (70)!

At the Sports Media Austria conference in Saalbach-Hinterglemm on Friday, he explained: “At first it was perhaps something to smile about, but later it was no longer something to laugh about. That was something that damaged German football.”

And he continued: “It wasn’t pretty, the way it was portrayed in public. So we’re all really happy that we have someone now and we’re keeping our fingers crossed.”

Magath led Bayern to the championship title and cup victory in 2005 and 2006.

Magath: Alonso “won the championship and cup by chance”

He says of Vincent Kompany: “I am very happy that FC Bayern has once again signed a very good, successful player as a coach. I believe that there is still a need in the Bundesliga – for former world-class players to bring their experience as coaches to the league.”

Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso has “just happened to win the championship and the cup. So I hope that FC Bayern will win titles again.”

Nevertheless, he does not believe that the record champions will be able to regain the dominance they enjoyed in the last ten years. “Bayern will have a better season. The players have a much greater responsibility. They often had the coach as an excuse, but that is no longer the case. Bayern will no longer be dominant in the next one or two years.”

He also compares Bayern with Manchester United. “The situation with Alex Ferguson was basically the same as at Bayern with Uli Hoeneß. Since Ferguson left, they haven’t really been able to get back on their feet. They spend a lot of money, but they can’t even get close to the top. They’re now part of the second tier in England.”
