Vini Jr. shines in Brazil’s rout against Paraguay: A potential contender for best in the world award

The most talked about name in the Brazilian team’s rout against Paraguay was certainly Vini Jr., especially given the expectations generated by the Real Madrid striker’s technical moment. He is also tipped to win the best in the world awards by both the magazine France Football as well as The Best.

Because of this, the striker acknowledged, while still on the pitch, that he has the potential to perform better when defending the Yellows. However, he emphasizes that his priority will always be to enhance the collective aspect:

“I always say that I never play for myself, for the team, for Brazil, for my country. I always try to do my best, but it’s not always possible. Today I played a great match, given the level of player that I am. I know that I can improve a lot to help the national team. This team wants to put Brazil where it deserves to be.”

Vini Jr. also took the opportunity to criticize the refereeing behavior throughout the competition. While the goalless draw against Costa Rica was refereed by Mexican César Ramos, the rout last Friday (28) was refereed by Chilean Piero Maza.

Furthermore, the number 7 highlighted the issue of the different dimensions of the pitch as elements that add to the level of difficulty of the Copa América:

“The Copa América is always complicated by the fields, by the referees who are always the opposite, by the way they treat us… But it’s about staying firm. Only by winning can we talk. When we talk, Conmebol says we talk too much.”
