Vinicius, the sentence is not for me but for all blacks – Football

(see ‘Spain: racist insults…’ at 11.56) “This first historic conviction (…) is not for me, it is for all black people”. On his official accounts, Vinicius Junior thus welcomed the sentence of a Spanish court which inflicted eight months of imprisonment on three Valencia supporters who had addressed racist insults to him during a match.

“Let other racists be afraid, ashamed or hide – wrote the 23-year-old Real Madrid player -. If not, I will be there to ask for justice.” “Many people asked me to ignore them, others said that my fight was in vain and that I should just ‘play football’,” he added.

Currently in the United States, where he is preparing to play the Copa America with the Seleçao (20 June-14 July), Vinicius is a serious candidate for the Ballon d’Or. He was voted best player of the Champions League, the 15th won by Real Madrid, after scoring the second goal in Real Madrid’s 2-0 final win against Borussia Dortmund at the beginning of June at Wembley.
