WBSC Releases Updated Baseball Rules and World Cup Tournament Regulations for 2023 Season

Following rule changes approved by the WBSC Executive Board in April, updated versions of the WBSC Official Baseball Rules and WBSC Baseball World Cup Tournament Regulations have been released online.

With this change, pitching limits for the U-12, U-15 and U-18 Baseball World Cups will be cumulative on a day-by-day basis to protect young players, meaning pitchers will be given an extra day of rest if they take the mound for three consecutive days.

For the WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup, the re-entry rule and the designated hitter were eliminated, and the Bat Performance Factor (BPF) was also reduced from 1.15 to 1, matching the BPF of one-piece wooden bats.

The WBSC Baseball World Cup Tournament Regulations also include significant updates to Doping Control Procedures (A5), Conduct, Violations, Fines and Suspensions (A7), Appeals (B4) and Communication of Notice (B5).

The first WBSC Baseball World Cup to adopt the new rules will be the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Final Stage 2024 presented by KARNext, which will be the first of four WBSC events scheduled for this season.
