There is one skill in football that you can learn to a certain extent – but you will never be as good at it as someone who has this gift naturally: pressure resistance.
I myself played with Emre Can. He always said: I’m not interested in anything else. I just play. It’s a crucial talent to be able to play freely under maximum pressure. Others rack their brains. As a coach, I have to help these players to stay on the action level. With the help of psychology, you can work out methods for these players to resist pressure – it’s possible, but it takes a long time. As a coach, you can talk to them, encourage them. But in the end, the player needs to feel good on the pitch.
