Willie Mays, one of the most famous American baseball players of all time, has died at the age of 93

Willie Mays, an American baseball player considered one of the best in the history of the sport, has died at the age of 93. He played for 23 years as an outfielder in Major League Baseball (MLB), the main baseball league in the United States: for almost his entire career, from 1951 to 1972, he played with the Giants (a team that initially had its headquarters in New York and who moved to San Francisco in 1958), and in 1972 for the last year of competitive activity he went to play with the New York Mets. In his career he hit 660 home runs – when a player sends the ball out of the field or into places that opposing catchers cannot reach – and is currently the sixth player to hit the most in MLB history. He won the World Series once, that is, the US championship, in 1954, with the New York Giants.
