  • Stan Wawrinka (ATP 93) will face British wildcard recipient Charles Broom (ATP 245) in the first round of Wimbledon.
  • Dominic Stricker (ATP 151) competes against the Frenchman Arthur Fils (ATP 34).
  • In the women’s competition, Viktorija Golubic (WTA 69) will face the German Jule Niemeier (WTA 96).

Stan Wawrinka can be happy with the draw for Wimbledon. The Vaudois will face Charles Broom in the first round. The Brit is already 26 years old, number 245 in the world rankings and will make his debut at Grand Slam level thanks to a wildcard. If he wins, Wawrinka would face a Frenchman, the indestructible Gaël Monfils or the number 22 seed Adrian Mannarino.

Dominic Stricker, who benefits from a protected ranking, can also hope to advance to the second round like last year. The 21-year-old is not the favorite against the Frenchman Arthur Fils, who is a year younger, but his game is more suited to grass. In the second round, a big caliber player would be waiting in the form of Hubert Hurkacz (POL), seeded number 7.

Alcaraz in Sinners Tableauhälfte

Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray, both of whom have recently been injured, are also in the table. For the Serbian world number 2, the hunt for his eighth Wimbledon title begins after recovering from knee surgery with a match against Czech qualifier Vit Kopriva (ATP 123). Djokovic’s designated semifinal opponent would be Alexander Zverev (ATP 4).

Last year’s winner Carlos Alcaraz (ATP 3) was drawn in Jannik Sinner’s half of the table. The Spaniard could thus meet the Italian number 1 in the semifinals, as he did recently at the French Open.

Golubic to start against Niemeier

In the women’s singles, Viktorija Golubic will face German Jule Niemeier in the first round. The Zurich native has never played against the 24-year-old. Niemeier reached the quarterfinals in 2022, just like Golubic did the year before. Her opponent in the second round would be number 21 seed Jelina Switolina or Magda Linette.

In the women’s table, Iga Swiatek faces a tricky task. The world number 1 will play in the first round against Sofia Kenin (USA/WTA 48), who won the Australian Open in 2020. On the other side of the table, the American Coco Gauff (WTA 2) will start against compatriot Caroline Dolehide (WTA 52).
