Who will play in Wimbledon 2024 – who won’t play?

In the men’s competition, there are question marks over three all-time greats: Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray recently had to undergo operations. And they only wanted to decide on their start shortly before the draw on Friday. Rafael Nadal will not be there, as he has already returned to clay. Also absent: Dominic Thiem, who did not receive a wildcard. The same applies to grass specialist Milos Raonic.

The entire world elite is taking part in the women’s event. Simona Halep is notably absent. The Romanian, 2019 Wimbledon champion, was not given a wildcard after her doping ban. Unlike Angelique Kerber and Caroline Wozniacki.

Who are the favorites?

The field is almost completely open for the men. Carlos Alcaraz is the defending champion, but he lost early to Jack Draper at the Queen’s Club. Jannik Sinner won his first title on grass in HalleWestfalen. It remains to be seen whether Novak Djokovic is fit enough to win the title again. Alexander Zverev is a candidate for the semi-finals at all majors, but things haven’t worked out so well at Wimbledon. Dangerous outsiders could be Queen’s Champion Tommy Paul or Matteo Berrettini.

Marketa Vondrousova is allowed to compete on the women’s side as the reigning champion. However, the situation here is also unclear. In Berlin, for example, industry leader Iga Swiatek did not compete at all. Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina and Ons Jabeur, all of whom were co-favorites for Wimbledon, pulled out early in Berlin.

What did the draw result in?

The draw will take place on Friday at 12 noon local time at Wimbledon.

Who is broadcasting Wimbledon live?

For the first time, the Wimbledon tournament will be broadcast by Amazon Prime in German-speaking countries. Experts include Michael Stich and Andrea Petkovic.
